Jet Boat Races a success...

The jet boat races held on the waters of the St. Joe River where a great success. The Racers had a great time as well as all those that traveled here to watch them. With all the activities in town, Show and Shine, Meet and Greet, and others, there was something for everyone. We really hope to get them back here next year and many more to follow. The banks of the river were lined with an estimated 5000 people showing there support for the sport. The Sheriff's office said there was very little trouble and the spectators did a good job of cleaning up after themselves.

Bates gets 30 to Life...

A mentally ill woman who shot and beat her uncle last year and burned his body in a fire pit has been sentenced to 30 years to life for his murder.

Melisa R. Bates was sentenced Thursday, May 24th, by 5th District Court Judge Fred Gibler. Last month, following court-ordered mediation, the 28-year-old Bates entered an Alford plea to second-degree murder in the May 15, 2011 death of 43-year-old Robert R. Marek of St. Maries. In an Alford plea, the defendant doesn't admit guilt, but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to gain a conviction.

3 Generations of Fathers.. and one baby girl...
I had a rare opportunity to have 4 generations of family at the same place, at the same time, what a treat. Too bad they grow up so fast. Hope you all enjoy your fathers day and be blessed by a hug from your kids, a card, or even just a phone call.
